WHY DOES IT MATTER??. You level out of the arena anyway. Not like you can turn off XP and keep your character there forever.

If someone wants to do the missions to get to yaks or whatever to get armor and come back to the 1-10 arena.. Good. YOU HAVE THAT OPTION TOO.

Stop crying, let this post die and if you don't like it roll a mesmer or necro and go kill the twinks.. DUH.

Aha

this all makes sense now.

I was in the lwlvl arena the other day and think i saw that grp of warriors, most w/mo, running into the fray with flame swords.

I personally and about 2other "normal" equip guys was smashing away but health bar didnt move once, they had no monk, just some w/mo and a ranger and a necro.

So i thought ok just a reroll toon and some guys who know how to play, so i went in again, almost same grp - my health had a drain on it so bad it wiped out my bar completely!

I cant say all of it was down to the necro but something was up when low lvl drains arent too bad just annoying and worrying at times. But my bar turned pink and dropped like the titanic.

Needless to say i left the arena feeling like something was wrong and yes others will just avoid the arena altogether.

Way to kill the most important part of the game guys...nice one

You could make your post a lot more constructive my making a list of what PvP areas are appropriate to what levels. I personally have no idea.

I am sure twinking might give a group a slight edge--but I think what makes twinked groups so superior to other groups in the arenas is:

1) they are all experienced players probably--since they have the resources to get godly armor and gear and upgrades
2) they probably work very very well with each other

3) They know how to fight PvP.

Limitations they have:

at level 1-10 there are only so many skill points they can feasibly have

at level 1-10 there are only so many skills period that they can have

at level 1-10 there is only so much hp/energy they can have

at level 1-10 there is max damage they can do

Now--I am sure that if they have the resources (time/gold/friends) they can probably plan out a team--with the most skill points/skills/gear that they could get in order to maximize their damage and minimize their deaths...but how many people have this? I would bet that there are groups of players--skilled/experienced enough as a team that could come in and give these guys a run for their money. As has been said before--there really is no reward for these guys--except for maybe bragging rights--but how much of a brag is it?

The pvp in noob towns is random, so it is hard for twinked parties to organize.

I kind of agree... but not really. When I first started playing (my first day) I went into the Arena and got seriously owned... I had no idea what I was doing, I just fully got bumslammed!!!

I haven't gone back.

However I'm now level 17 as opposed to 1 or 5 or whatever I was then, and I feel much better about PvP. I still don't like the fact that I have nothing to fear from other players while in the wild, but I feel like PvE has hardened me and taught me a bit about how to play.

Someone who is powertwinking their PvP characters and spending most of their time teaching noobs how to make love to an axe... beware... I've been exploring every portion I can find of the map, I'm determined to take out every major beastie I can find with as few henchmen as possible (and without resorting to known winning class combos but instead playing what I like to play). By the time I get to PvP I will know my character inside out, I will understand how to move, how to attack, how to defend, how to use my terrain and how to use my teamates appropriately, also how to read my teamates and the enemy appropriately.

in most cases being accused of one of these things is a great compliment... however if perchance someone is simply winning because they twinked and now like to abuse low level players, I will be ready...

For great Slugness!

They can have all the awesome plate armor they want unfortunately for them my necro skills automatically take out life directly from their life bar instead of damage on their armor. hahahaha! time to move on to the next arena though for me soon.

The entire point of the lower level arenas was to attempt to keep the playing fields fairly level so that low level characters could compete decently and grow to enjoy the pvp.

Yes it is technically possible for a low level character to make it to Droknar's on teh coat tails of others. Some folks do it for the kicks of seeing how early they can ascend. Others do it so that going back with a freshly minted lvl3-insta 20 ascended character makes skill acquisition a lot easier.

The unfortunate side of this is that there ARE those who only do it to get their jollies by beating on n00bs and other low level characters for as long as they possibly can so that they feel good about themselves. THese are the ones that get to Droknar's the hard way and get all teh highest level gear and don't ascend.

I do think it would be best if at least the arena in AC were equipment limited so that new players have a reasonable chance to play and compete without getting abused by players that "twink" out their alts or new guildmates. Let everyone have an equal shake at enjoying all aspects of the game before the 1337 pwnz0r a-holes ruin it for them before they even have a chance to get to like the game.

Though I'm sure there is a lot of twinking going on, not everyone with uber items has been twinked. Generally, I see ultra-powerful weapons and runes being sold in town for far less than the price of black or silver dye, and I happened to get two silver dyes when I was level 4. So I've got some nice equipment even though I'm low level, and I've mostly played by myself.

Oh dear, i havent thought of it that way... i saw these people getting dragged through lornar's pass or w/e to draknor's(sp), and i didnt really realize the reason for doing it... i remember them stating they wanted the higher lvl armor (Since it has no lvl req), and didnt really think about those poor people in the lvl 10 arena getting tossed around by people that can hardly get hurt from them because of the Final armor... That's insane...

The higher lvl swords and such aren't as effective since they require higher str/sword/axe/ whatever attribute... but still... yea...

Nice point (although i don't go into those arenas and only have once to get my own ass handed to me... *Now i know why...*)

how about since technically armor types have levels for instance bonelace is lvl 70 def and scar pattern is 60 for necros (if i selected bonelace as the 70ar but it isn't just use the numbers), then depending on you level armor functions at the max you could possibly attain at the level of that arena. So for instance I go to the Ascalon arena at lvl 10 the max bonelace armor could be for a lvl 10 is 30AR. Therefore my armor rating regardless of where it is 45 or 70 functions at 30 AR. However if i bought the 15ar bonelace, well it still is only 15 ar. This would be a pretty easy piecewise function.

Weapons could function similarly. I think the only difference on any of these is that the mods (+en, recharge, etc.) should function the same regardless. So you can twink the mods but the damage and damage reduction a twinked player can get are reduced. The adjustment is done by arena so that it caps the effects of player. This would be pretty easy to implement via world effects, which I believe don't count as conditions therefore would not cause extra damage to players because of spells (such as feast of corruption).

Plate mail!! Lightsabre axes! Characters with so many major runes on them that it was a joke.

I have to ask these people - Why? Your not learning any tactics. It will not help you at level 20. Your just griefing all the real new players who are trying PvP for the first time.
Agreed on all counts. It is a sad truth that some people cannot see beyond the end of their noses and thus, are willing to get their 'pwn' going upon the one set of 'fresh meat' in the game, usually insuring they return to PvE and forget all about trying to learn how to PvP effectively.

These fools would have you think that PvP is something you either 'can or can't' do. Um, wrong. And trust me, that you mop the floor with new players thanks to your runes and upgraded armor is not impressive, it merely speaks to the reality that some people don't get that PvP isn't about the 'pwnage', it's about skill and tactics.

Guess what? This demonstrates neither.

Hopefully ArenaNet will understand better than these fools the importance of building interest in PvP among the PvE community and put restrictions to stop this kind of thing in place before the "0h m?? 90?? 0h m?? 90?? 1 m??$7 0wn20r$ j00 n0w!!~!~11" runs off all the fresh meat and we're stuck with the inevitable spiral down into pure boredom that happens at about oh, the one year mark.

I'm having trouble understanding just how twinked they could be. When I buy armor, I can't give it to anyone else. Even without equipping it, it says it's customized for Cerixus The Just. Also, all weapons have some sort of requirement, and most of the really leet weapons I've seen have pretty steep requirements. Maybe I'm missing something though?

This kind of thing is all I experienced for my first 30 minutes in PVP. I was honestly asking myself, "This is the game everyone is going nuts over? Pfah"... untill I got a good team assigned to me. After I saw the strategy work together and was better able to comprehend everyones contributions to the team effort it made a lot more sense.

However, from that point on I did notice a lot of level 10 or 15 (depending on the cap) players with OUTRAGEOUS gear for the arena. Mainly warriors, etc... but they're obviously using hand-me-down gear from their guildmates or somesuch. That can be really frustrating, especially when it seems that is a popular 'style of play'... for example:

I dont know if I am playing too fast or not doing enough side quests, but nearly every time I form a group for a mission ppl are 2-4 levels higher than me in my group. When I first got to Yaks Bend with my friend we were both LEVEL EIGHT. The lowest person besides us was TWELVE. I dunno if these people also like to play easily but when I'm 8 and I'm questing with a 17... I just dont see how it is a challenge for them.

All in all I don't think this is comparable to "player killing", or "greifing" of any sort. It was a big issue for me to grapple early in the game though.

The same ones who do this are the same ones that get their kicks out of quiting groups durring missions. And nobody wants to do anything about that either LOL. Kinda ruining the game IMO. But what can anyone do when this type of stuff isnt delt with but actually defended.

Hmmm...
I had one random AC arena team that kicked the sh*t out of everybody. It wasn't because we were uber equipped; we were A) a well balanced team and B) using the right skills at the right time. Doesn't matter what they throw at you as long as you fight well. 17 wins (about 10 flawless) before our ranger left and my computer crashed

If you take the risk to go into these arenas you know what level of people you're going to face.
